Rationale
This website has been created to support teachers in implementing the Sydney CEO unit of work 3.7 Eucharist: Jesus Is with us. Resources found throughout the website aim to provide engaging and creative experiences which develop Stage Two students' understanding of the celebration of the Eucharist.
Within each unit content area a variety of resources are provided to support the teaching and learning of key outcomes. Resources focus on the key parts of the Mass including, the Introductory Rites, the Liturgy of the Word, the Liturgy of the Eucharist and the Concluding Rites. Students recognise the Eucharist uniting all Catholics as members of the one community, the one body of Christ as they gather in communion with each other.
As students learn about the Mass as a celebration of the Eucharist with the presence of Jesus they are able to recognise how the Eucharists strengthens us to live the Good News of Jesus. The Eucharist is an essential Sacrament for students to learn about and receive as it allows students to be involved in the "full, conscious and active participation” of the Mass where celebrate with their parish community (Second Vatican Council, 1963).
Scholarly literature has informed the creation of this comprehensive tool kit, particularly Blooms Taxonomy and Gardner's Multiple Intelligences. To allow all students to engage in and access the resources provided, a number of intelligences are catered for. For example through the use of video's and songs students who prefer visual, musical and kinaesthetic motivation are catered for. Whereas resources that initiate discussions or writing such as books, worksheets and PDF files cater for students with interpersonal, intrapersonal, verbal or logical abilities are catered for (Gardner, 1999). Blooms Taxonomy is also used throughout where rich and stimulating activities are provided to give students the opportunity to extend on concepts and skills through access to higher order tasks, which will lead to confidence in understanding.
